Audition Requirements – Adults
OWN CHOICE SONG/S: Please prepare 2 contrasting sections of songs (approximately 1 minute each) in a style similar to those of the show but not from the show – please make sure one of the songs is in a Rock style. These must show your vocal ability. All own choice songs MUST be accompanied by piano or professional performance quality backing track. You will need to provide your own accompanist. Please ensure you advise their name on your application form and remember to contact them prior to your audition, to arrange any rehearsals and discuss any fees payable.
DIALOGUE AUDITION: You should prepare a <1 minute joke, monologue or poem, preferably comedic. We’re looking to get a sense of your energy, vocal clarity, and timing. An American accent is not necessary for this task. Your audition will also involve a cold read of a script on the day. An American accent is encouraged for this. This will be provided in the waiting room for your audition so you will have some time to read over it before you enter the room. If you feel like a cold read will put you at a disadvantage (ie. If you have a condition, impairment or disability that will interfere with your ability to read and present a script during your audition), please let us know on your application form and specify details so that we can accommodate your needs. The cold read will either be from a “Dewey” or a “Rosalie” script, which will be used for all roles.
GROUP MOVEMENT AUDITION: All auditionees MUST attend a movement audition. These will be held in large groups. For your movement audition, please ensure that you wear comfortable clothing for dancing. You may choose to wear dance shoes (eg chorus or jazz) or other closed in shoes/sneakers (no boots).
GROUP HARMONY AUDITION: All auditionees MUST attend a harmony audition. These will be held in large groups. Music will be provided on the day and taught to the group.
DEWEY: Applicants auditioning for Dewey should come prepared to play some guitar in their auditions. We will upload a set piece for download. If you can’t play guitar you CAN still be considered for Dewey.
OTHER: This year, we will not be sending out audition times to applicants. When completing your application, you will be able to choose your audition times yourself. Please book into a 15 minute vocal audition slot & a group movement slot. Any callbacks required will be held on Mon 2nd May.
