About the Show
Based on the 2003 hit film, this hilarious musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to pose as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these mini stars what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. Featuring new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and original songs from the movie, this musical delivers face-melting guitar riffs and touching romance in equally awesome doses.
Cast Requirements
30 Adults – 5 principal roles and 25 other named roles with lines of various ages, genders, vocal ranges and movement ability. Only the 5 principals and 6 minors are listed in more detail further in this information.
20 Children – 4 School of Rock Band (guitar, drums, bass, keyboard), 8 named student roles, and 8 ensemble. This show will be DOUBLE CAST so 40 children in total.
Although the movie features certain ethnicities in certain roles, we have no requirement contractually to abide by that casting. We are however, looking for a diverse cast – so we encourage all children of all different backgrounds, abilities, looks, cultures and ethnicities to apply. Toowoomba Choral Society encourages an inclusive space and will not accept disclusive language or behaviours.
Please note that “School of Rock” is rated PG with low level language throughout.

Rehearsals
Rehearsals are PRIMARILY held at Choral Hall Toowoomba and are mainly held on:
Monday evenings 6-9pm (Leads/ cast as called)
Thursday evenings 6-9pm (Lead vocals/ chorus dance rehearsals)
Saturday 10:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 5:00pm
Rehearsals will begin in early June and will break over the June/ July school holidays. Cast absences must be kept to a minimum & it is expected that all cast will attend at least 95% of rehearsals.
Membership
As we are a society run by volunteers, it is imperative that all cast members of the annual musical become financial members of the Toowoomba Choral Society for the duration of rehearsals and performances. This ensures that you are covered by our public liability insurance. You must also pay a small production levy to help offset the large costs involved in producing a major show. The levy also includes a TCS School of Rock T-shirt.
Rehearsal materials will not be handed out until fees are paid. These fees will be due and payable PRIOR to the Meet and Greet in June. Any cast member who fails to pay their membership by this date will not be allowed to attend rehearsals and as a result, will forfeit their position in the cast. Invoices will be sent out with other paperwork once the cast is finalised.
ANNUAL MUSICAL MEMBERSHIP FEE
Adult (over 18): $105 ($65 membership + $40 Production Levy*)
Child (under 18): $95 ($55 membership + $40 Production Levy*)
CURRENT 2022 FINANCIAL TOOWOOMBA CHORAL SOCIETY MEMBERS

Please note: current TCS members will need to ensure they have paid their FULL Year membership to be covered for the musical.
