DATE: 28-30 August 2015
VENUE: Empire Theatre, Toowoomba
Travel to Argentina with the Toowoomba Choral Society as they bring the life story of Eva Peron to the Empire stage.
Join the narrator Che as he takes us through the rags-to-riches rise of the first lady who won the love of her countrymen after marrying military leader turned president Juan Peron. Set in Buenos Aires between 1934 and 1952, the musical follows Eva Duarte Peron on her journey from fatherless child to ambitious actress to the most powerful woman in Latin America – and eventually, to a saint like figure after her death at age 33.
Her huge political influence and constant charity works earned her scorn and fear from the military and upper classes, but adoration and love from the workers and lower class. Eva Peron’s legendary life will be displayed before your eyes as the most hated and most loved woman in Argentina.
Evita features music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics of Tim Rice and was one of their most successful musicals, including memorable songs such as
Oh What a Circus, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, High Flying Adored, Another Suitcase in Another Hall and Don’t Cry for Me Argentina. Evita was made famous by the 1996 film adaption, and had an incredible run on Broadway and West End.
